Join us for an immersive Worksongs Workshop with Bennett Konesni — musician, folklorist, and co-founder of The Worksong Project. This experiential session explores the living tradition of work-songs: powerful, rhythmic, and deeply human songs that turn labor into joy, connection, and collective strength.

Drawing from historic sea shanties, field hollers, harvest songs, and worker rhythms from around the world, Bennett brings these traditions to life not as museum pieces but as living practice. Rooted in community and anchored in movement, this workshop celebrates how work and song have always been inseparable — shaping identity, strengthening cooperation, and making hard tasks feel lighter when they are shared.

Through participatory singing, call-and-response exercises, and storytelling, you’ll:
  • Learn traditional worksong forms and rhythmic structures
  • Explore the role of songs in real work settings — from boats and fields to crafts and kitchens
  • Sing and move together, discovering the joy in collective rhythm
  • Connect history with modern life, discovering how age-old practices still resonate today

Whether you're a musician, educator, labor organizer, community facilitator, or just someone who loves music and human connection, this workshop offers a unique space to listen, learn, and raise your voice together.

Bennett’s work blends cultural history with joyful participation — from Library of Congress performances and TEDx talks to features in The Washington Post, The New York Times, and NPR. Come be part of the tradition that transforms work into song and song into shared experience.
